The English language school in Newlands, Cape Town, is located in an upmarket residential area. Here you can study in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. At the same time, you are close to all types of accommodation and only a short walk away from a commercial and office centre.

People learn best when they feel comfortable and relaxed. You will find the school building to be a warm and friendly place in a quiet environment. Semi-Intensive English

The course is designed for students who wish to develop their English for daily use.

for all days and evening. Where the focus in the evening on the development of the student's
speaking skills may include simple trips outside the Institute.

his course is 10 hours that can be added to one of the English courses or private lessons. 
The time of the session is evening. The course aims to develop the skills 
of the student in the English language in the work environment and aims

emails and many other points related to the work.

Host families for the language school in Newlands

As the language school in Newlands is situated in the middle of an upmarket residential area, there are many host families to choose from in this area. Depending on the location of your host family, you can either walk to school or go by MetroRail or bus. Most families live in private houses with a garden.

Host families for the language school in the city centre

If you attend your language course at our school in the city centre, you will be accommodated with a host family either in the city centre area, Sea Point, Milnerton or one of the southern suburbs. To get to school, you either need to take a bus or use MetroRail. Most families in these areas live in flats.

Homestay-Plus

Especially for older students and for those who want to enjoy more comfort at a host family, we recommend this accommodation option. At Homestay-Plus, you enjoy a private bathroom and a higher standard of living in general. The average time it takes to get to school is also shorter.

Locals share their home with you

Who will be my host?

Your host can be a family, a couple or a single person wanting to rent out a single room and allowing the guest the use of the kitchen. They are typically very independent people who may often not be at home.

What type of home can I expect?

In the area around the Newlands school, most homes are private houses or town houses, sometimes with an outside studio / cottage / garden flatlet, but may also be apartments. In the city centre, most homes are apartments.

What are my responsibilities?

Students do their own shopping, their own cooking, cleaning up of the kitchen and their own room.

Hosts have no obligation to be at home or to socialise with the student.

NEWLANDS CAMPUS

Situated right next to the school building with a large garden & a swimming pool.

Features

Each bedroom accommodates between 3 and 4 students and is equipped with desks, chairs and a wardrobe. A total of 3 bathrooms are available to share.

There is a large kitchen for self-catering, large common areas, a garden and a pool. Wifi is available free of charge.

Location

The campus accommodation is situated next to the Newlands school in an upmarket residential area. The closest MetroRail station can be reached within a few minutes’ walk.

The main shopping areas for the Southern Suburbs as well as restaurants, pubs, banks, bars, etc. are also within walking distance.

STUDENT RESIDENCE

Located in Observatory, a popular student area; very close to many pubs, restaurants & night spots

Features

20 single rooms each equipped with a single bed, a washing basin, a desk and a wardrobe. There is also a safe in each room.

There are two lounge areas with a sofa and TV and two fully-equipped kitchens for self-catering with a stove, a fridge, a dishwasher, a microwave and a toaster.

Location

The Student Residence is situated in the suburb of Observatory. This is a lively suburb with many young people, and there are lots of trendy bars and restaurants close to the residence. The nearest MetroRail station is very close and it only takes a few stations to reach either of our two campuses.

STUDENT/VOLUNTEER HOUSE

A private house with a garden and a swimming pool – ideal for long-term stays.

Features

Two to four students share one room. There are 4 bathrooms to share, a kitchen for self-catering, a large common area, a garden and a pool. Wifi is available at an extra cost.

In addition to the self-catering facilities, volunteers have the option of ordering homemade meals (Monday to Friday) that only require heating. Volunteers can choose to order lunch only, dinner only, or both. These healthy meals are freshly made and delivered daily. Orders are made while in Cape Town at least 2 days in advance.

Location

The Student House is a private house in an upmarket residential area. You can reach the nearest MetroRail station within 5 minutes and the Newlands school is 15 minutes away on foot. If you attend the City Centre school, it takes you about 25 to 30 minutes to get there on public transport.

GUEST HOUSES AND HOTELS

Other accommodation options are available on request.

For the budget conscious, there are a number of reasonably priced hostels available for City Centre students. We recommend booking well in advance, especially during high season.

Bed & Breakfasts for almost any budget can be booked for both centres. In the southern suburbs, they are often within walking distance, while in the city centre you will need to take a bus or taxi.

If you prefer more luxury and have a bigger budget, you can choose between a number of hotels. There are both 3-star and 4-star hotels within walking distance of the City Centre and the Southern Suburbs schools.

GENERAL CONDITIONS LANGUAGE SCHOOL

1. Booking

Your registration results in the existence of a contract upon written confirmation from Good Hope Studies.

2. Alteration and Cancellation

An alteration fee will be charged for alteration of bookings. Notice of cancellation before arrival must be made in writing to Good Hope Studies. The deposit is not refundable. For cancellations received within 2 weeks prior to arrival, the cancellation fee amounts to 1 week’s tuition and accommodation. Should any services be cancelled that are not printed on our price list (hotels, flight-tickets, etc.), the cancellation charges of the third party provider will apply. Tuition fees will be refunded in full if a visa application is rejected or Good Hope Studies is unable to offer the course or a suitable alternative.

3. Withdrawal

No refund is possible in the event of cancellation after arrival, or of no-show of the participant. No refund is given if the student is asked to leave due to unsatisfactory attendance or performance.

4. Minimum number of participants

All courses require a minimum number of 3 participants. Should the minimum number not be reached, the school reserves the right to offer an alternative course instead or run the course with a reduced number of lessons. Depending on the course, the reduction is between 20% and 33%.

5. Accommodation

When booking accommodation, the student accepts and agrees to the “House Rules”. No refund shall be considered for any student who is asked to leave any accommodation belonging to Good Hope Studies, for reasons related to a violation of the “House Rules”.

6. Insurance

Students are not insured by Good Hope Studies against illness, accident, theft or any loss of personal effects. Good Hope Studies or its representatives cannot accept responsibility for any accident occurring during the course, on or off the course premises, on excursions or during activities. Personal insurance cover is therefore recommended. Full personal insurance cover should be taken out to include medical and any other expenses and also loss of fees should the whole or part of a course or any activity, paid in advance, not be attended.

7. Complaints procedure

In case of any problems, no matter how serious or small they are, you are asked to inform good hopes about the problem immediately. As Good Hope Studies is an IALC member, all clients have the opportunity to inform IALC (info@ialc.org) as a last resort.

8. Place of Jurisdiction

Place of jurisdiction in any dispute: the courts at Cape Town.
